Therefore, you either found a way to hide your torrents from ProtonVPN (but not likely) or your torrents never passed through the VPN tunnel (leaking your own IP address). In any case, please do not use the free plan for torrenting.

I'm using protonVPN free subscription and it seems to good to be true. The speed is decent and there's major servers in the US and Europe. There doesn't appear to be a data limit, no ads, and its not a trial, its free unlimited. Performance-wise, ProtonVPN for me has generally been a lot more consistent in performance (bandwidth and latency wise) than Mullvad, where servers sporadically get high ping or die.
